In 100 words or more, reflect on your experience researching and writing historical fiction. The following are SOME of the questions/topics you might want to consider in your reflection: What did you enjoy doing? What did you not like about the experience? Describe any interesting facts/details you learned while researching. Would you have preferred to write a typical research paper instead? Why?
While writing this fictional story I figured out how Michael Jordan's dad was murdered.I also had figured out why he had retired his first time. What I didn't like about this historical fiction paper was all the dialogue I had to come up with it. It was so much dialogue it was hard. But what I liked was that I was able to come up with my own story. I had the choice of what the characters in my paper should do. I would rather stay with this than just a typical research paper this was a lot more fun and it was a little easier to write.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I enjoyed writing this kind of research paper, rather than just a typical one. I think that doing the source pages actually helped a lot in the writing process, it helped to give me ideas on what else to write about and what details I could include to make it more interesting. While researching for this paper I also did learn some new things about the year I had as well as how life was at that time. I just don't really like writing papers that much, or writing anything for that matter, so actually having to figure out how I wanted my story to go or how I wanted to incorporate things into it was a bit of a challenge. Other then that I did not really mind writing the paper, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

ReplyDeleteDuring my time researching I learned a lot about my year 1948. I learned that in the 1948 London Olympics Alice Coachman was the first black woman to win a gold medal. Also, I learned that she died in the year 2014, which was sad but at least she lived an exciting life. I liked researching because it was spread out during the entire semester and not done all at once. I also, enjoyed how we were all able to choose different years because if we were going to do all on the same year then there would not be much to choose from. Also, all our stories would be very similar therefore we have a variety of stories which are more interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I enjoyed about the research process was actually researching historical facts about sports. I always loved sports, and I felt that I needed to know more about it. I usually don't have the time in the day to look up facts about sports I did not know. This project was perfect for me. I found out historical facts back in the 80's that I really didn't know about. Some parts I didn't enjoy about this was how long it took to write the endnotes and the works cited. The endnotes took forever because I had to cite them, as well. I learned that Michael Jackson was a Grammy Award winner, Michael Jordan was on the Olympic Team as a rookie, and that they haven't found any type of medication to help fight AIDS or HIV's. I think that this historical fiction paper was a good idea, because I had a good time writing my story, while adding historical facts and learning new information at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThe long and tiring process of writing and researching the historical fiction paper was actually pretty fun. It beats reading stories all day and you get to learn about some interesting facts that happens in a specific year. For example, I learned that Michael Jordan did not really have the flu during game 5 of the 1998 NBA finals, also known as The Flu Game, but he had food poisoning from eating pizza. What I didn't like was trying to figure out how to sprinkle my research into my story, although i did enjoy writing the story and making up stuff.
ReplyDeleteThis long and intensive Historical Research Paper took a lot of effort and time to complete. I actually enjoyed this project, excluding the MLA and Endnotes because that was the hardest part and took the most time. It was interesting to incorporate historical facts throughout the paper. I actually did learn a lot of interesting things, like what was happening with the community in Beijing while the Olympics were being held and how America was going through a recession in 2008. It was also a bit fun because we got to make up a whole story and say the story exactly how we wanted without restrictions.
ReplyDeleteI loved everything about the proccess, I thought i was great going threw the proccess and having a little rush about if i was going to finish the story on time and get a good grade. i was thinking that i might even turn it in late because my story was long. I enjoyed doing the sources because it helped me alot to write the sotry, without the sources I honestly think that i still would be writing the paper write now. The things that i learned like John Hinckley not found guilty for almost assinating Ronald Raegon, Micheal Jordan having a son that is persuing his father carreer. I would nat have written a typical resaerch paper because there would be nothing interesting to tell the audience, the audience would find the paper boring.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed righting about Babe Ruth Because he was the one that inspired me to play baseball. I didn't like the fact that there was a war going on. I learned many things as I was researching Babe Ruth. I learned were he went to school as a child, were he grew up and how he grew up how that effected him in life to get were he was at the time, how good he was for the Boston Red Sox. I would have Preferred to right a normal research paper instead but if I were to do that than I wouldn't have much to right about because I would have put to much information in a sentience that could shorten my essay.
ReplyDeleteFor a high school student, its a really good idea to chose a year and research what happened in that year. Researching a year you want in the past tense, teaches a person the values we have now. I chose the year 1930, and in that year there was no cell phones, no internet, no cars owned by teens. Now in 2014 I have a cell phone, internet, and a car. By researching a specific you want, you will be more knowable of the history of the past. The year I chose 1930, was when the stock market was leading into the Great Depression. And by researching, you will know what are the true details of what happened. I learned of how people dressed in the 1930 too.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think that writing the historical fiction paper is a great experience because it taught us how to properly conduct research to assist us in writing a historical fiction piece. I personally enjoyed the whole process and learned many new things about the 1936 Olympics. I would not have preferred to write a typical research paper because personally, I think that it would not be as interesting to write or to research about. The story becomes much more interesting to write when there is a certain year and sport event to write about. The entire experience was enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteAfter doing research about sports in the year of 1979, I learned that the city of Pittsburgh was the happiest place to be because of all the success they had. The face-off between Larry Bird and Magic Johnson helped raise the popularity of basketball. I learned that living in the year 1979, meant that communicating with others was difficult to come by. The cost of gas was just 86 cents at the time and fashion changed dramatically from 1979. After finishing the historic research paper, I learned much more than just sports but how life was like in 1979 and how different it is compared to living life now.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion this historical fiction paper became more interesting when i started researching it and finding all these facts about my year which was 1989. I found out that in 1989 world series in San Francisco, California the strongest earthquake to hit the area since the San Francisco earthquake of 1906, it caused more than 60 deaths, thousands of injuries, and widespread property damage. Which it happen right in the middle of game 3 in the world series between the Oakland Athletics and the Giants. The game was suspended for ten days, which became knows as Earthquake series. I would rather write a historical fiction paper which we just did because you have to do a lot of historical research on that year, which you can learn lot about that you never knew.
ReplyDeleteIn this project I learned a lot of nit and interesting stuff about my year: The Roaring Twenties. For example like I didn't know that the Yo-Yo was invented in the 1920s and that it mean “spring” in philippine and kool-aid was invented in that year to. I had fun searching for events and famous people like the infamous Al Capone. He quit school after the sixth grade and associated with a notorious street gang. After that Torrio invited Al Capone to go to Chicago and work for him. When Torrio got injured Al became the leader of the mob. The only thing I didn't like was the writing part.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed writing this historical fiction research paper because I learned more things about my year and was able to put my own twist on a specific event. I think the source sheets helped me find out interesting facts and also helped make writing the paper easier. I learned that Shoeless Joe Jackson was offered money to throw the 1919 World Series but he didn’t take any after the series was over. I was also able to compare how different life was between 1919 and now. I think that writing this historical research paper was more fun than writing a typical research paper.
ReplyDeleteOverall, I enjoyed writing the historical fiction paper. It was a different type of writing than what I am used to, having to include dialogue, develop a plot, and have a story flow. I enjoyed learning several things about the year, but I feel that I did more learning researching on my own rather than having to do all the research exercises. I believe six wasn't necessary, two would of been a better amount, however, if it was a way of handing out points, then thats a different thing. Although I did enjoy writing the story, I would of rather written a typical research paper instead because in my opinion, Im don't think I'm going to be writing many stories in college for essay, I am, however, going to be writing several research papers and I feel like that assignment can be a good way of knowing how research papers should be done/developed.
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot from this research paper. First and foremost, it was fun. Although, it got pretty difficult at times. Sometimes I had trouble finding information about my year. It was also difficult to use all of the articles I found and turn them into one flowing story. I had to research more to find ways to make is sound nice and clean. I wanted it to make sense. I think I prefer the historical fiction short story more than I would like to write a standard, ordinary research paper. With the historical fiction paper I get to express my creativity and it is a lot more fun. While researching I learned some cool stuff like that fans of the Tour de France do all sorts of crazy things while supporting the racers such as dressing up in devil or banana costumes and running alongside of the cyclists.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the historical fiction paper it was fun. It was better than writing a regular boring research paper. I liked it because I got to make up a story and put real facts about my year. It was fun learning about my year which was nineteen eighty six. It also fun because I got to find interesting facts and events that happened that year. I learned that the Chicago bears played the new England patriots in the super bowl and that Walter Payton didn't score a touchdown. The source papers really did help me form my story. I say that this will help me in the future in writing papers.
