Athletes should be able to voice their own opinions how ever they want. Like Magic Johnson said "They're incredible stars that people will listen to." Like he said people will listen to these athletes. They are always being watched by thousands of people sometimes even millions. I'm pretty sure if LeBron would speak out more about what happened in Ferguson or New York people would know what's going on.
A professional athlete should not publicly state his opinion on social issues because it creates unnecessary attention. In our country " Athletes have a prominent influence in our communities" and cause people make a bad situation, worse. When an athlete states his opinion, those who may not have protested may begin to protest since the athlete supports them. Also, those who did not have an opinion before, may decide to agree with one side because a professional athlete supports them.
Athletes should be able to express their views on social issues. "They realize that there is a need for a voice and they had the right opportunity-like we did-to be that voice, to be heard." The reason why this quote supports this claim is because if the victim had a right to speak out, so should an innocent athlete. The way this quote supports the claim is because the athletes are huge inspirations to younger people and can make an impact.
Athletes should be able to express themselves socially. "Their job was to go out and to play football, but that doesn't preclude them from what's happening in society." Athletes are not just skilled players, a majority of Athletes are very educated. Just because they are athletes does not mean they don't live ordinary life outside of the sport they play and can't contribute to today's society to make a change.
Professional athletes should have the right to express their opinions even during their work time. In the article we read, it states, "We're not going to agree with every stance on every issue. Charles Barkley's recent take on Ferguson, for example, was an example of gross ignorance and over-simplification. But he's entitled to make them." I agree with this statement completely. Just because not every person is going to agree with every opinion every one has does not mean people should not express how they feel.Just because a person is working does not mean their right to express their own beliefs should be taken away, that is just absurd.
Professional athletes have a voice and should be able to use it, because they have the right to do so. Magic Johnson believes that athletes should speak out and tells The Associated Press,"I'm so happy they're socially conscious... and they want to use their platform and their voice." Magic Johnson understands that players are highly appreciated and are being heard every time they speak. Athletes want to speak out on issues that are occurring in America, like everyone else and shouldn't be held from using their voice.
In my opinion athletes shouldn't have a say on social issues and should just focus on the sport. Alana Flinn once said that "There's a time and place for everything,' and professional athletes need to learn that on the court and on the field is not the place to take a stand on social issues. If athletes got involved with the social issues they can make it bigger than it already is. They should just say that they are aware of the situation but don't bring it on the court and or field.
Athletes should be able to silently protest how they feel anout a certain issue, even if it ends up on their social media. "But anyone who feels strongly and wishes to express his opinion certainly has that right." I think that this is very true because society is based off of peoples' opinions on issues, and what they feel is right to them. I also believe that athletes themselves are humans and pretain to having a freedom of speech.
Athletes should be expressing their views no matter what the topic is. So, "It's perfectly fine for players to take stands on certain issues and illnesses, as long it's not the issue and illness of racism?" If athletes can talk about the topic of ebola, why can't they talk about the topic of racism? They have the right to talk about anything, even though it's about Ferguson or even Eric Garner.
Athletes should ware cloths that fight racism. It will allows every one to see whats going on like "I cant Breathe" shirt, a shirt that represents a black person being chocked to death from an officer. People should change how they see other raise. Just because others are different doesn't mean others should be treated different. So having athletes ware things like that will help people think better about others.
Athletes have the right to express their views on social issues. Magic Johnson said, "They're incredible stars that people will listen too." A lot of people look up to athletes and they will listen to them. Professional athletes are role models to the people.
Athletes should be able to speak their mind and do what they choose to do. According to Carlos "Their job was to go out and to play football(any sport), but that does not preclude them from whats happening in society" was what he told the New Your Daily News. This quote explains my claim because athletes should be involved in society especially if it can influence them in one way or another. Also, by using this quote shows how others think especially when they do not agree with everything.
Athletes should be able to voice their opnion about scial issues such as racism. The athletes are able to speakout but the have to do it respectfull and responsively. The pro athletes have the same right as others one which is to be able to speakout on racism. The pro athletes have every right to express anything they want with no disrespect.
Pro athletes should express their views on racism. I couldn’t have agreed more with Deron Snyder when he said in his article, “If they’re good for building patriotism and civic pride, for fighting domestic violence and cancer, they’re good for building bridges to understanding, for fighting discrimination and systematic oppression.” Pro athletes have time and money going towards organizations such as cancer foundations and organizations of their own, so they should devote just as much time and money towards organizations that help fight discrimination. Because athletes are role models to people, if they express their views then people will feel like they have someone to rally behind.
Do what ever it takes to get the word out to the public. Steven A. made a statement that would prove a point to both sides, "Serves no purpose to loot your own neighborhood". Steven A. Smith's statement is right no one should ruin there property, but if that is what gets the point across then so be it. The citizens express how they feel through action and their actions include looting their neighborhood because they are outraged. Actions speak louder than words.
Athletes should express their views feelings about social issues.''They're incredible stars that people will listen to'' I support anyone that stands up and say what he/she thinks. athletes are equal to any person in america. They have the first amendment too. The freedom of speech.
Sports athletes should not advertise their racial opinions on court and should just play the sport. The court should not be the place to bring politics in sports like Alana Flinn says in her article " It's the age-old adage "There's a time and place for everything," and professional athletes need to learn that on the court and on the field it's not the place to take a stand on social issues." Sports athletes like James or Derrick should just play the sport because bringing in racial issues could just make matters worse or change other peoples minds. Instead they should view their opinions outside the court instead of putting their opinion out for everyone to see.
Athletes should publicly express their opinions on social issues if they are informed and feel strongly about the issue. There are many topics that athletes are encouraged to speak about such as abuse and as Deron Snyder wrote, "I don't recall any complaints about stars using their platforms for those causes." It is acceptable to society for athletes to address topics like abuse and disease, but when it involves race it is a huge deal. Athletes can spark a change with their influence.
I do believe that athletes have the right to show their opinion. :This is more of a motion to the family more than anything," Lebron James. He's trying to support the family. He has respect for the lost that the family had. That's why he wears the 'I Can't Breathe' shirt.
Athletes should be allowed to express their opinions publicly. Everyone has the right to publicly express their own opinion, athletes should be no different. Athletes can have a huge impact on peoples opinions and if they feel strong about a certain topic, they should have the freedom to express it. In the article we read, it states, "We're not going to agree with every stance on every issue. Charles Barkley's recent take on Ferguson, for example, was an example of gross ignorance and over-simplification. But he's entitled to make them." This clearly demonstrates how not everyone will have the same opinion, but that shouldn't stop someone from expressing theirs. Their career as athletes should not impact in any way the rights given to them at birth.
