Sports Hero

Describe your favorite player or your sport hero and why he/she is your hero. What qualities or skills does he/she possess that leads you to admire them so much. Writer John Tunis once said, "The heroes in my books are the losers." Do your heroes always have to win or have you learned something from them when they have not been successful? Is your sport hero that because of their athletic prowess, successes, and skills or are they heroic because of the values they show, their ability to overcome challenges, or their determination against the odds. Talk about your sport hero in detail.

  1. I honestly don't really have a sport hero but if i had to choose one i might choose Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson was the first African American in the major leagues for baseball. I don't think that you're hero always has to win in order for you to learn something from them, sometimes them losing shows you more about them and about their character. Jackie Robinson would have to be my hero because of his determination and his integrity to keep moving forward despite all the negative things happening or being said to him. He was criticized countless times and had so many people against him, yet he never gave up, and i admire him for that. Even some of his own teammates were against him, and over something so small that shouldn't make a difference at all- his skin color. I admire him for his courage and strength.

  2. My sports hero growing up was Howie Long. The reason Howie Long was one of my sports hero's growing up was because he was feared on the football field. Howie Long was probably one of the most devastating defensive linemen. He was fast, agile, and strong. He would think of himself as the best guy on the football field and it would show. He would destroy opposing players. Howie Long was just an animal on that field and it showed. He would push himself so much. He had a good motor he would keep going and going until he would sack the quarterback or destroy the running back. That' s why Howie Long was my sports hero growing up.

  3. My sport super hero is Michael Jordan because he showed me how importnt sticking with other or by yourself could be good and bad things at certain points of time and or in your life, he also taught me that some things don't hurt to try even tho your successful or a failure at it as long you attempted it and you know what's the effect the next time you try it and you will get better and more effective the more you practice the objective. Michael Jordan was the greatest and the legend of basketball, he won about six NBA championships and in 1995 he retired basketball and went to play baseball, that showed me that you can do anything you want as long as you stick your mind to it. My sport hero knew that wining wasn't everything as long as you tried your hardest and did your best. My sport hero is the best because of his athletic and skill that he showed and he overcame the challenge of having the flu, I admire him for showing me and others that he can succeed and be sick at the same time and that he empower others to do the same and hopefull not get sick.

  4. If I was to choose one person as my sports hero, I would choose Jimmy Valvano. He is my sports hero for two reasons. The first reason is that he led his team against all odds to a NCAA championship in 1983. My second reason for choosing him is for his unforgettable speech at the inaugural ESPY's. That speech showed how great of a person he was and the way he coached team to success. To him, the way his players felt was just as if not more important than winning. To me, that not only is a great sports figure, but a great person as well.

  5. Most people have big time sport heroes such as Michael Jordan, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lebron James, and Derek Jeter. As for me, I have heroes such as athletes like Kwahi Leonard, Jimmy Butler, and Brandon Saad. Although these guys may not often appear on ESPN headlines, watching them play truly inspires me. They may not always be the most skilled guys on the court/ice, however they are always the hardest working. These athletes are never flashy. They just get their job done and keep moving. I never get a sense of arrogance from any of them. That is why I admire these guys. They show that talk is cheap and the only important thing is leaving it all out there.

  6. Although I do not have a favorite athlete, if I were to choose one that inspires me to play, it would be Michael Jordan. There is a reason why this man is considered one of the greatest athletes ever to play sports. He was unique. Michael was the type of athlete that it would not matter where he was or what he was doing, he just had the drive to win. Jordan was a hard working player, and although he did not lose often, he did take the few loses into account as to why it occurred and what he could do to prevented. He has a quote about why he is successful and in that quote, he only states his failures. That in itself is truly admirable to see a professional athlete realize their mistakes and base their success off of them. Jordan inspires me from many aspects of the game: his success, his drive to win, his training, and most importantly, his impact on the game itself.

  7. I don't have a favorite athlete, but if I was to pick one, it would be Alex Morgan. She is honestly a great role model. Not only is she a great player, she works hard to the best of her ability. I was always into soccer as a kid, and she just encouraged me to be better and never give up. I look up to her because, even when the U.S. Women's Soccer team lost a game, she did not give up, but rather worked harder and practiced so that she did not make the same mistakes on the next game. Over the years, soccer has become one of my favorite sport, it shows great sportsmanship and teaches me how to be responsible and dedicated. I always try to take Alex Morgan as an example, and practice as much as i can to show myself that it is possible to be as good as her.

  8. I honestly do not have a favorite athlete, but if I would then I would choose Shaun White. I would choose Shaun White because he is a snowboarder and I enjoy snowboarding very much. Snowboarding may come easy to some but snowboarding can also be a challenge. I know that because I used to ski and now i switched over to snowboarding. I admire Shaun because he became a pro at the age of 17. He is very talented and a great snowboarder. He does his best every time and never gives up. That is what I admire the most the fact that he does not give up and that he keeps going and always wants to do his best. He was the first and only person to win both a Summer and Winter Dew Cup. He has done a lot to keep up everything and always has been doing his best.

  9. If I were to chose a favorite athlete, it would end up being Michael Jordan. He would always be considered one the greatest not only because of his great ability playing the game but willingness to play at his best even in hard situations that might prevent that. As a kid, he encouraged me to be dedicated and made me also realize I can achieve my goals if I put the effort. To be a heroe, I think they don't have to win to be successful. I admire his quote when he mentions that he fails over and over which makes him succeed. I believe that because in order to get better, you may have to fail in order to achieve that. Because of his strength, his determination, and explosiveness, that inspires me and makes him a great hero

  10. My favorite athlete is Bruce Lee. He's my hero because I always liked his work and how he worked to be at the top. The skills that make me admire him is how how he is with his training and how he made Jeet Kune Do. I don't think Bruce has to always win in a fight (which pretty much he will win in any), and he likes to learning from his mistakes so he can teach himeself how to become better or what did he do wrong. Bruce is the way he is because he trained hard, failed in the things he was training in, and succeeded in life. Bruce never liked to fight ever, only in his movies. He was always trying to perfect or fix any of his training. One of is famous quotes that he used in an interview was "Mistakes are always forgivable, if one has the courage to admit them".

  11. my favorite sports hero/legend would be derek rose the greatest professional basket ball player on the chicago bulls team.He is my hero because this guy suffered a really bad knee injury that ended his season on November 22, 2013, but this guy will always be legendary to me because he's been there with his team no matter if he played in the games or not he was always there to support his team .The qualities or skills Derek Rose possess leads me to admire him so much is in his previous seasons hes played was outstanding because most of his games he played starts and I think thats amazing. I have learned that heros dont always have to win. Being a loser or a winner doesnt make you a hero a hero is someone you look up too and inspire and want to be that person when you grow older thats a real hero like Derek Rose inspires me. My sports hero is that because of his values he shows and his ability to overcome challenges and his determination towards his teammates when he believes in his teammates, that they can go far without there all star player. I know that Derek rose played a short season from the year of 2011 to the year of 2013 but he is still the greatest basketball player I would ever know and this 6 foot ,3 inch man is considered to be my sports hero and my inspiration.

  12. My sport hero is Don Gable. He won a gold medal at the 1972 Olympics an accomplishment he was especially proud of, because the Soviet wrestling team had promised that they would scour the Eastern bloc to find a wrestler who could take down Dan Gable. They were unsuccessful, He won all six of his Olympic matches and pinned three of his opponents. He would never become a wrestler until his sister got raped murdered. After that, he became "a horse with blinders as far as wrestling was concerned" because he wanted to give his parents something positive. I think my sport hero is successful because he gave something positive to his parents that means a lot.

  13. I do not have a favorite athlete, but since I have to pick, I would choose Michael Jordan. My two favorite qualities of Jordan would have to be his ambition and perseverance to be the greatest in basketball despite whatever challenges he faced. To think he didn’t make the varsity team as a sophomore in high school, only to become the greatest professional basketball player of all time must have felt pretty great to achieve such a prestigious accomplishment. He learned from his handful of losses to become an even better player, only to capitalize on it while on the Bulls during the 1995-1996 season by dominating their way to a NBA record best 72-10 record. He displayed his strength and ability to overcome illness in his famous flu game during Game 5 of the 1997 Finals. Jordan has inspired me because of his success and passion for the game.

  14. Michael Jordan is my sports hero. He always showed great determination and had the willingness to never give up. What made me admire Michael Jordan was he always had the will to win. He would always work hard in the gym everyday to make himself a better basketball player. Yes, I believe that you always have to win to become a "sports hero," because you are bringing hope and success to your own city. Michael Jordan's success and hard work made him my sports hero. He displayed his determination by winning "Defensive Player of the Year." This showed that Jordan always wanted to beat the best, so he guarded the best player from each team every night.

  15. My hero is Christiano Ronaldo . He is my hero for many different reasons such as being such a great player in the community and also being a big help in the community by donating a lot of money to the less fortunate. Ronaldo donated a golden boot worth a very large amount of money in order to help kids and people in Gaza and Palestine. It means a lot to the less fortunate people to have someone do something like this just out of generosity. The world needs more people like Ronaldo.

  16. Derrick Rose is my sports hero. Rose became the youngest player ever to win the Most Valuable Player award in the NBA. But Rose had a terrifying injury in his fourth season, a torn acl. In the olden days a torn acl would have been a career ending injury but with the technology we have now Rose was able to recover and play again. Sadly Rose suffered another injury which was a meniscus tear in his right knee. It is not as severe as a torn acl but it is still pretty bad. Rose recovers again and is now healthy again and hopefully will help the Chicago Bulls win an NBA title this year. Derrick Rose is my sports hero because he has a great career ahead of him that was delayed because of some injuries but he stayed patient and worked even harder to get back to playing and that inspires me.

  17. My favorite player that I would pick is Michael Jordan. My two favorite qualities of Jordan would have to be his determination to win it all and his competitiveness. He is a player that never stopped trying to get better. He learned from his mistakes. He learned from his losses to become a better player than he was. He was the greatest basketball player ever in my opinion. He led the Chicago Bulls to win championships. He even played when he was sick and he still made the Bulls win. He is the kind of player that shows his dedication and hard work for the love of the game.
