Dan Gable

Would you want Dan Gable as a coach?  As a father?  Explain.

  1. Dan Gable would be an amazing coach. He would always be pushing you to do your best and testing your limits, which makes him an excellent coach. Although he would be a wonderful coach, personally I would not want him to be my coach because he has such a strong personality as a coach. I would also hate to disappoint him if I lost.
Dan Gable would also be a good father but I would not want him as a father. I think he would be a very protective and strict father, but he would be a caring father who is there for you when you need him.

  2. Dan Gable would be a great coach for top athletes with the passion to their sport. They would finally find a coach that would push them to the extreme limits they never knew about and become a lot better as a result. Unfortunately I would not want Dan Gable to be my coach because I think some of his ideology is crazy. He didn't give a kid a scholarship just because he had other interests other than wrestling.
I would not want Dan Gable to be my father either because he has such a great obsession that would disrupt the way I want to live my life.

    2. I agree with the part of your statement about his obsession with wrestling. That would definitely mess up my life and not for the better. I would want to live my life the way I want to and not have it controlled by a guy that's obsessed with one thing. He would be pushing me to wrestle even though I don't want to.

    3. I agree that an athlete would have have to be extremely passionate and dedicated to endure Dan Gable's training.

    6. I feel the same way about how he refused to give a great wrestler a scholarship just because he had other interests. He is a great coach, but sometimes he takes it too far and and makez everything too personal.

  3. I think that Dan Gable would be one of the greatest coaches to have. He is an Olympic gold medalist and one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Even though I am not a wrestler, I think the way he coaches people to success is unbelievable. Knowing how tough and crazy he is, I know he would push them to the max! Although, having him as a father is not something I would want. He would be disappointed in me for not playing the same sport as he did. Also he would be one of the most strictest fathers out there.

    1. With that said, Jose, it's not very clear whether you want Gable as a coach or not. You said he would be one of the greatest coaches to have, and I agree with that. But, would you want him as a coach? Why or why not?

  4. I would love to have Dan Gable as a coach. He is a legend in wrestling and having him as a coach would make me work hard so I could gain his respect. He is a very successful coach who has one 9 State title. Although even though I would love to have him as a coach I would not want him to be my father. The reason i wouldn't want him as a father is he would be very strict and we would always be training for a sport because of his obsession with sports.

  5. I believe Dan Gable would be a excellent coach. The reason I believe he would be a excellent coach is that he will push his athlete to perform at a top level and not accept anything less than what he requires them. For me I would not like him as a coach because I feel I would not be capable to perform at a top level at every match. As a father goes I would not like him because I will not be able to focus on wrestling or move around just to watch a wrestling match.

    1. I agree with you about the point you make about having to travel so much to watch wrestling matches because it would disrupt your school and social life.

  6. I think Dan Gable , would be an outstanding coach to be coached by. His determination and deccantation would motivate myself to be the best. He would build my character in the sport we both enjoy and care about. He would show me his determination to never give up and keep on trying , even when the odds are agaisnt me. I think he would give me something to keep on going until nothing is left inside me. In my eye Dan, gives me a person , who would just keep pushing me until he sees I'm ready to take on the challenge.

    2. No, only for the fact that I wouldn't see him, and wouldn't spend time with him, and wouldn't be able to tell him about my day of school and I wouldn't have a conversation without him bringing up his passion for wrestling.

    3. That's true Steven I wouldn't like having him as a dad for ur reason also he would miss out in alot of event in my life and wouldn't be there for me.

  7. Dan Gable would be an amazing coach because his determination would definitely motivate me to be the best on and off the court. He would push me until he sees I am ready for anything physically and mentally. I would definitely want to have him as a coach. As a father, I have mixed emotions because I know he is afraid of being alone. However, he would always be there for me when needed.

    1. Not wanting to be alone isn't a bad thing, I'm sure no one wants to be alone. Most of our parents are going to be sad we're going to college, but being alone is something everyone is going to have to deal with at some point.

  8. I would love to have dan gable as a coach and I would also dislike it. To begin I would love to have him as a coach because I would know he will push me to my limits. Knowing my self and how much I like to give up I defenetly know he would try to motivate me to continue and push my self. In the other hard I would dislike having him as a coach because I know he would be externally strict on me and I would be afraid to disappoint him in any way. I would feel the need to be perfect and satisfy him not my self. Also I would also like and dislike having Dan gable as a dad. I would love having him as a dad knowing he will protect me from any one and knowing how intimidating he can be I would feel safe and Secure. I wouldn't like to have him as a dad and bring him around guys i like they would feel intimidated. I would hate to get him mad heat him scream or kick doors as the espn magazine said.

    1. Good point Jose, one loss doesn't determine how good of a wrestler you are. Just like many people say "mistakes don't define you".

    2. Losing his sister, and that one match made him even more stronger and better!

  11. I believe that I would love to have Dan Gable as a coach. Reasons being that it would be amazing to have him as a coach because he will push me, including everyone else, to never give up. A coach who wants best for his players and wants them to succeed, is a great coach in my eyes. Dan Gable will do whatever he can do to make sure we can win. I believe that losing is not an option in his eyes.

  12. For a personal opinion, I would love and not love to have Dan Gable as a father. Reason for having him as a father would have to be that he is a great Role Model. Dan Gable is a great inspiration to look up too. He had a tough life and it was a struggle. He made the negatives in his life, turn into reasons to win.

    1. Some reasons why I would not want Dan Gable as a father is because he has some "issues." He cant bare to be away from his loved ones for to long due to the fact of his sister's death. I feel that he would be overprotective and it would bother me as I grew older. Just the thought of having him as a father and a possibility of me not wanting to wrestle scares me. What would he do? Disown me? oh boy.

      Delete
    2. Matt, even though he loves the sport so much he also loves his family just as much. He would never disown you for not wanting to follow in his footsteps, as long as you find something else you love and dedicate your time to it.

    3. I agree with your point that he will support you as long as you dedicate your time on something you have passion for.

  13. I would want him to be my coach and I wouldn't. The reason I would want him to be my coach is because he would always be pushing me. He wouldn't settle for anything then my best. I don't think that he extremely upset if I lost a match but I gave it everything that I had. The reason that I wouldn't want him to be my coach Is that I feel that he would push passed my limits. As a father I think I would want him to be my dad. Why because he would be a great dad. Not saying my dad isn't great. He would be on my case for school, sports and anything. He would make sure i was going good in school and he would always make sure i gave in 110 percent in what ever sport i was in.

    2. I strongly disagree with you Captain Tibiia. i think Dan Gable would be extremely upset with you if you lost. It would be bane to him, and give him a plethora of reasons to yell at you.

  14. I would love to have Dan Gable as a coach. He has not only the experience to teach from, but an attitude that separates him from any other coach I know. Most coaches don't expect their teams or competitors to complete an undefeated season like Dan Gable did. He wanted his wrestlers to be top notch, so he pushed them to their limits and sometimes past them. Having said that, I want a coach that strives for perfection. I wouldn't want Dan Gable as a father just because of how dedicated he was to the sport of wrestling. His mood might affect how he treated me and might even ground me for no reason.

    3. Yeah, he would most likely ground you for life if you lost a wrestling match.

    4. I do not agree with you. I don't agree with you because what if someone doesn't have what it takes to meet up to his standards. He can strive for perfection but what if his athletes do not have what it takes to help him reach his perfection.

    5. I agree, hard work and dedication can make you great but cannot make you reach perfection. An example of perfection is Dan Gable which is a combination of talent and dedication. Without talent it is simply impossible.

    6. Gustavo has a point. If someone lacks the talent to be a good wrestler he most likely will let down Dan Gable as a coach.

  15. Dan Gable would be a great coach to have. His dedication, hard work and determination are what made him one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. The athletes he coached tried their hardest to impress him. But, I would not want him as my father because he would be too overprotective. Also, his family followed him and his wrestling career therefore he spent less time with them. Gable does not even know the way around his own town. I feel if I were to lose at something, he would be disappointed because he cannot stand losing.

  16. i would not want Dan Gable as a father because of his quote. Why, because if there is one thing in this world that I do not like that is misleading quotes.

  17. I would want Dan Gable as a coach. Why, because I am not good at wrestling and it seems to me that he suffers losses just as bad as his athletes. Dan Gable suffering losses with me time after time will make me want to strive for perfection.

  18. Dan Gable is one of the most dedicated people I heard about in sports history. However, his dedication comes in costly from the family point of view because he was so busy coaching that he only knew how to get from Hawkeye arena home and vice versa. The reason I wouldn't want Dan to be my father is because he would probably never understand me if I ever failed at something. Another reason is that during his coaching I think he would know more about his wrestlers than his own kids. On the other hand I would like him as a coach because I would respect him because of his accomplishment and his hard work. His special character adds people a special something that allows wrestlers to reach a new potential.

  19. Yes, I would like Dan Gable to be my coach. He is one of the best wrestlers, and he would alwyas push me to the max! It would be great to be trained by one of the best wrestlers. On the other hand, I would not want him to be my father. I would'nt want to live under the same roof with someone like that because of all the things he's still going through in his head. Also he would be overprotective and very strict.

  20. I personally believe that Gable would be a great wrestling coach. He'd be a great coach for any sport honestly. He is hard working, caring, respectful, and a good leader. All this adds up to a great coach. But even though he's a great coach. I wouldn't want him to be my coach. Mainly because of his fear of losing and I would not be able to reach his standards.

  21. I would like to have Dan Gable as a coach. To have a coach as or even more motivated as I am would make me strive for perfection even more. To know that I am not alone no matter what would be a relief. Dan Gable might not know a lot about football but to have a coach of his caliber would push me to my limits.

  22. I would love to have Dan Gable as a coach if i was a wrestler. He has more passion for wrestling than anyone I have ever heard of. He would push me to become an amazing athlete by making me work harder than I could imagine. Him being the best wrestler of all time would make a huge impact on how he coaches.
